The jacketed ribbon blender is a high-performance, horizontally oriented batch mixer engineered for precision blending of dry powders, granules, and slurry-phase materials, with integrated thermal control capabilities. Designed to handle temperature-sensitive formulations, it features a double-helical agitator system enclosed within a jacketed U-shaped trough, enabling simultaneous mixing and thermal conditioning via heating or cooling media.
The primary mixing mechanism is a contra-rotational ribbon agitator, composed of outer and inner helices mounted on a rigid central shaft, generating bidirectional axial flow and intensive radial turbulence. This flow pattern ensures homogeneous inter-particulate blending with minimal cycle time and high bulk uniformity, even for cohesive or fine powder blends.
The double-layered jacket is fabricated from corrosion-resistant stainless steel and designed for high thermal exchange efficiency. It accommodates steam, hot oil, glycol, or chilled water circulation, regulated through PID-controlled temperature loops for precise thermal profiling of the batch. The jacket is pressure-rated per ASME Section VIII standards, with safety valves and thermal insulation cladding for industrial compliance.
The agitator shaft is supported by self-aligning heavy-duty bearings and hygienic-grade mechanical seals to eliminate ingress and egress of materials. Power transmission is delivered via a helical bevel gear reducer paired with a variable frequency drive (VFD) motor, enabling adaptive torque control and programmable mixing cycles.
The mixer’s bomb-bay discharge valve or pneumatically actuated flush-type slide gate ensures complete and residue-free unloading, compatible with automated downstream handling systems. The inner contact surfaces are mirror-polished (Ra ≤ 0.6 µm), suitable for clean-in-place (CIP) or manual sanitation, aligning with FDA, GMP, and 3-A hygienic standards.
